Petite Cobalt Blue Phillips Milk of Magnesia Bottle
Petite Cobalt Blue Phillips Milk of Magnesia Bottle
Cast in rich cobalt blue glass, this small vintage bottle once held Phillips Milk of Magnesia tablets and now serves as a sweet accent piece. Its deep hue catches natural light beautifully on a sunlit windowsill, holding a single clipped floral stem or standing quietly alongside a collection of antique glass.
A Little History: Charles H. Phillips patented Milk of Magnesia in the 1870s, but the iconic cobalt blue glass bottles were introduced in the late 1920s after Sterling Products acquired the company in 1923. Small, flat-sided cobalt bottles embossed with "Phillip's Milk of Magnesia Tablets" on the base were heavily produced throughout the 1930s, 1940s, and early 1950s as travel and purse-sized tablet tins/bottles. By the late 1950s and into the 1960s, glass manufacturing transitioned away from cobalt glass for over-the-counter medicine packaging in favor of clear glass and plastic.
