Meet the Brand
Rooted in the art of creating a layered home, The Common Place believes that weaving history into your spaces brings a unique, modern sensibility to everyday living. We are striving to build a brand that outlasts us—mirroring the very craftsmanship, patience, and endurance of the storied objects we discover. We invite you into this "home" we have built, celebrating a community dedicated to hosting the stories of people and antiques alike.
About Shelby
Shelby is the founder and curator behind The Common Place, a brand born from a deep reverence for history, craftsmanship, and the art of the find.
Originally from Benton, Arkansas, she grew up surrounded by storied pieces and launched The Common Place in 2023 as a creative outlet. What began as an intuitive knack for pulling together somewhat odd, distinctive pieces to tell a cohesive story has beautifully evolved. Today, it is a destination for exceptional curation, designed to inspire people to bring soulful, historic elements into their own modern homes.
Curation is her forte and the foundation on which she builds every collection. It is her passion to source and create distinct vignettes inspired by a narrative, which in turn inspires anyone who encounters them.
The Philosophy
Founded on the belief that a home should feel layered and lived-in, my aesthetic is delightfully eclectic and unique, refusing to be limited by a single era. I look to source vintage and antique pieces that possess a timeless character, effortlessly complemented by modern creations.
When I launched this venture, my business experienced a profound evolution as I leaned fully into my signature skill of curation. I am richly inspired by the patience of old-world craftsmanship; the enduring quality of things built to last fills my mind with ideas for how we shape our surroundings today. Created with easy pairing in mind, our collections effortlessly enliven spaces in a cohesive fashion.
Sourcing exquisite, historical pieces for my community is my passion, and bringing people together is my greatest joy. My deep value for community has influenced my desire to create a welcoming environment - a true place to host the rich, overlapping stories of both people and antiques for years to come.
