Our Curation Standards
At The Common Place, we believe in the beauty of the past and the honesty of the present. Because we value transparency, we use specific industry definitions to help you understand the age and origin of every piece we source.
The 100-Year Rule (Antique)
We attribute the term Antique to items that our research indicates are 100 years old or older. These pieces are historical survivors, often showing the hand-crafted techniques of the 19th century and earlier.
The 20-Year Rule (Vintage)
We define Vintage as items that are between 20 and 99 years old. This category captures the nostalgia of the 20th century, from the mid-century modern era through the late 1990s.
New Reproductions
Our New Reproductions are modern items curated specifically for their 'old-soul' aesthetic. These are brand-new pieces chosen to complement your historical finds, offering utility and style that blends seamlessly with the aged character of our other collections.
We are dedicated researchers, not professional appraisers. We spend hours identifying maker's marks, analyzing materials, and studying manufacturing history to provide an estimated age for our finds. While we use our expertise to attribute dates as accurately as possible, these descriptions are based on our personal research and do not constitute a legal certification or formal appraisal of authenticity. We encourage our customers to appreciate these items for their historical character and aesthetic beauty.
